Christian Conte is a senior at Marist School and the Editor-In-Chief for the Blue & Gold. At Marist, Christian is also involved with Theater, Student Council, Retreat Leader, Student Ambassador, is a National Honor Society Board Member, and more! His favorite beverage from the cafeteria is the Arden’s Garden “Sunrise” smoothies, and Christian’s favorite day of the week is #MotivationalMonday! He enjoys utilizing the platform of this newspaper to express his creativity and give a voice to everyone in the Marist Fam, and he has been a member of the Blue & Gold since 9th grade. Laura McGregor, Marist Class of 2001, had no intention of returning to teach at her Alma Mater. Yet 14 years after first returning as a science teacher, she now finds herself as Dean of Students, filling the big shoes worn previously by Mike Trapani ’70.

The Call to Serve

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses from across the country, including 75 from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, flocked to New York City, the epicenter of the virus then. Pappas was one of those nurses. Usually a nurse at CHOA when not working at Marist, she has served on the hospital’s Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Unit for the past six years, where she “care[s] for kids,” newborns to age 21, “with leukemia, solid tumors, brain tumors, or sickle cell anemia.”

A native of Metro Atlanta, Premoli graduated from Brookwood High School before receiving a B.A. in English Literature after attending the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia for two years each. She has worked in Fulton County Schools since 2013 as an English teacher, department chair, and an administrator. Most recently, Premoli was the principal of Cambridge High School prior to beginning at Marist.

With such a timely entrance, our Marist Way theme for this school year is Ardent Love of Neighbor. One of the simplest ways to practice this daily is by wearing a mask. Because no matter how stylish you look with your mask, we do not wear a mask for ourselves; we wear it for others.

10 Years Later: From Marist Graduate to Teacher

10 years ago, a Marist senior walked across the stage, received her diploma, and graduated Marist in the Class of 2010. After graduating Elon University in 2014, she returned to Marist School, now as a faculty member. Currently, she teaches English courses and moderates the Antioch retreat and the Peer Leader program. Meet Mrs. Katherine Carroll ’10.
