This season, the girls cross country team proved again that they are the best, taking home their 25th state title in 33 years.
On November 8, 2024, in Carrollton, Georgia, the girls pushed through extremely tough competition and came on top. This season not only added to their legacy but was also a statement of their execution, teamwork, and perseverance.
The team, led by extremely talented runners, ended with a total team time of 1:40:13:84. Caroline Rogers stood out with a 7th place spot for Marist at a time of 19:35.
The championship was far from a one-person effort, but rather a team effort with Maeve Waddell, Camille Gibson, Morgan Waddell, Megan Latham, Ella Hanemann, and Caroline McDonald all performing well and beating hundreds of fast runners.
All the girls executed well and beat some tough competition.
The teams they managed to beat included Harris County High School, Westminster, Northview, and St. Pius. Harris County high school finished 2nd place with a total team time of 1:42:21:40, which wasn’t speedy enough to out pace the War Eagles. Way to go Marist!
Cross country coach Matt McMurray commented on the girls state win. “The girls’ execution across the board went very well, and they were so patient, which allowed them to do their best and outperform,” McMurray said. “I am very appreciative of these girls and the hard work they put in the entire season. They are so talented and definitely not a group I will forget.”
This victory was not only about their fast time but also about the bond these runners share with each other.
Runner Caroline Rogers commented on how she feels about cross country. “Cross country is something I look forward to every day after school because of the girls,” Rogers said. “They are my best friends, and I am so grateful to run with them everyday.”
With this huge win, the team adds another chapter to a legendary history. The girls hard work and dedication paid off, adding another trophy to the shelf. Great job, ladies!
